Courtney McCann is a fourth-year applied linguistics student at the university. Originally from the States she joined the Vikes as the Community Outreach manager in 2016. She is passionate about creating a close fun environment for student and enjoys exploring Victoria’s beaches in her free time.

Broadcast Media Philip Pierce

Alumnus Philip Pierce went on from UVic’s Computer Science and Engineering programs to work in air traffic control software, transportation and security engineering, and educational technology. Philip held the position of Director of Engineering at FLIR Systems Canada for nearly a decade before transitioning to a career in education as Director of Technology and Innovation at St. Margaret’s School for Girls in Victoria BC. Philip has also worked extensively in digital media, producing over 500 commercial videos for the digital marketplace over the past 15 years, and is currently the principal engineer at PDP Multimedia. Philip is excited for the opportunity to bring his experience to the support team, and grateful for the chance to give back to the university that kick started his colourful and rewarding career.

Play-by-Play Broadcaster Emil Patenaude
Emil is a Graduate of Electronics Engineering Technology from St Lawrence College in Kingston, Ontario. Three years of Volunteering at CFRC Queens University Radio lead to studying Broadcasting. Later, Emil studied Creative Writing at Selkirk College. Journalism followed with a weekly Entertainment Column at The Nelson Daily Newspaper. A love of Hockey from an early age and the opportunity to return to broadcasting, as a play by play announcer capacity for the Vikes was an easy decision to make.

Marketing Shayla Faminow
Shayla Faminow is a 4th year Political Science student working towards a minor in Journalism at UVic. Shayla runs the live broadcast and play by play portion of the games as well as volunteers her time helping promote the team. In her free time she is a member of the Kappa Beta Gamma sorority and is studying to become a Lawyer.

Scorekeeper Madeline Dvorak

Madeline Dvorak is in her final year of the Child and Youth Care program at the University of Victoria. She has worked for the UVic Vikes Men’s Hockey team since 2014, serving as everything from scorekeeper to announcer to social media promoter to questionable playlist creator. The only thing Madeline has not done well is throwing the puck over the glass when necessary. Madeline encourages everyone to come out to a game this season. Go Vikes!

Analytics Leo Jiang

Leo is a UVIC alumni who graduated in the summer of 2018. Most recently, Leo completed a couple of courses with Sports Management World Wide. He completed the GM & Scouting program and most recently graduated in their Hockey Analytics program. As a passionate hockey fan, Leo is thrilled about being part of the Vikes staff on behalf of StatsTrack. Leo’s role is to track the advanced stats for the Vikes and hopes the data will help improve the team’s overall performance throughout the season.
